The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States on five European individuals working on fighting online hate and misinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
